3D Prints & Utility Designs

I print what I need. Just two designs here — not because I haven’t made more, but because these two held up. They solved real-world problems and proved themselves through use.

GPS Shroud

Mounted GPS with 3D printed button shroud

This print solved a real-world problem: my GPS kept logging false waypoints when the main toggle was accidentally bumped. I designed a protective cone-shaped shroud that blocks unintentional presses while keeping the button usable. Since mounting it, I’ve logged zero false entries in five years of use. Rugged, simple, effective.

Flash Diffuser Mount

Flash diffuser mount on DSLR flash

Custom mount for a Canon 580EX Speedlite. Printed in matte white PLA to spread light smoothly across close-range subjects. Shot below taken with the diffuser — designed, printed, and used in one weekend.

Macro photo of a star-bellied spider, lit using the 3D printed flash diffuser
Captured with Canon 5D MkII, 100mm macro, 3D printed diffuser. Lighting shape solved in design, not post.

“Printing is just physical scripting. Solve the constraint, test the result, repeat.”
